Grassroots Fiji 7s to Spotlight Rising Rugby Talent at HFC Bank Stadium

The Fiji Sports Council (FSC) is poised to conclude the 2025 rugby sevens season with a spectacular event, the Grassroots Fiji 7s, scheduled for December 18–19 at the HFC Bank Stadium. This tournament is set to highlight some of the most innovative rugby talents from across the nation while offering substantial prize money across the men’s, women’s, and Under-20 divisions.

The FSC has set its sights on attracting 24 men’s teams for the main event, with the Cup winner receiving an impressive prize of $10,000, with registration fees set at $1,000. Additionally, the U20 division will welcome 12 competing teams, where the Cup victor is slated to earn $5,000, requiring a registration fee of $500. The women’s division will offer a top prize of $3,000, with a lower registration fee of $300.

Gilbert Vakalalabure, the CEO of FSC, has conveyed the tournament’s significance beyond mere competition, stating, “This tournament is more than just a competition; it’s about nurturing grassroots rugby, giving players a platform to shine, and celebrating the game at all levels.” This sentiment echoes the ongoing commitment of the FSC to enhance rugby’s grassroots development, enabling young athletes to gain valuable experience and visibility.

In a noteworthy addition to the weekend’s festivities, volleyball will also be featured, showcasing an extensive prize money package that is anticipated to be the largest in Fiji’s volleyball tournament history.

This year’s Grassroots Fiji 7s marks the inaugural leg of the series, with an additional event planned for Bua on January 16–17, 2026. As more tournaments are slated for next year, all eyes remain on the HFC Bank Stadium for this year’s exciting finale.

The Grassroots Fiji 7s promises a dynamic weekend filled with competitive spirit, as both players and fans can look forward to celebrating the vibrancy and talent within Fiji’s sporting community. The FSC’s dedication to nurturing talent at every level continues to fortify Fiji’s rich rugby culture, paving the way for a bright future in the sport.
