The 50th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament was officially launched yesterday at Walu Bay in Suva, marking a remarkable milestone in Fiji’s rich rugby history. This iconic event has been a launching pad for numerous players who have gone on to achieve international recognition in the sport, including stars such as Jiuta Wainiqolo, Pio Tuwai, and William Ryder, all of whom began their illustrious careers at this prestigious tournament.

Lawrence Tikaram, president of the Marist Rugby Club and tournament coordinator, shared his pride in reaching this significant anniversary. He celebrated the milestone, noting, “We are very proud of our history, but also very proud of the fact that we have been able to contribute to grassroots rugby for the last 50 years. It’s been a milestone achievement not just for us, but for all the clubs and players who have participated during the 49 years of Marist 7s.”

In honor of this landmark occasion, Tikaram unveiled a new tournament logo that encapsulates the theme “Golden Roots, Global Wings.” Scheduled for March next year, the tournament promises to be a memorable event for players and fans alike, blending local talent with the global rugby community.
