ATLANTA — The Georgia Lottery has achieved a remarkable milestone, having collected over $30 billion for education programs across the state since its inception 32 years ago. This funding has significantly supported critical initiatives such as Pre-K education and the HOPE Scholarship, making a positive impact on the lives of millions of students in Georgia.
Gretchen Corbin, President and CEO of the Georgia Lottery, expressed pride in the program’s ability to open doors for countless Georgians. “What we like to say in Georgia is every time a person buys a lottery ticket, they are a winner, and so are Georgia’s students,” Corbin stated.
Governor Brian Kemp also praised the lottery’s contributions in a recent statement, highlighting how it has set students up for success and enhanced access to quality education. “On behalf of generations of Georgians, Marty and I are proud to congratulate the Georgia Lottery on this historic milestone and celebrate its impact on so many students, some of them twice as former Pre-K students and HOPE recipients,” said Governor Kemp. “Since 1993, Georgia students from Pre-K to college have been set up for success through the programs funded by the lottery, expanding access to high-quality education in our state. We look forward to seeing that legacy of impact continue for years to come.”
Corbin emphasized the Georgia Lottery’s impressive standing, noting, “our state lottery is one of the top lotteries, not just in the nation, but in the world in regard to sales, in regard to returns.” The fruits of this success translate to more than two million children benefiting from free Pre-K programs and an additional 2.2 million students attending college through the HOPE Scholarship.
Overall, the Georgia Lottery’s efforts have not only provided significant financial support to educational institutions but also fostered a legacy of opportunity and success for future generations of students in Georgia.
