Extra Bula FC experienced a disappointing defeat on Sunday, despite maintaining control of the game and dominating possession. Head coach Stephane Auvray and his team are grappling with the frustration of their ongoing struggle to score goals.

Auvray voiced his concerns in a post-match press conference, acknowledging that the team’s inability to find the net is the primary source of their discontent. “The frustration is just because we are not scoring; otherwise, what could we really be frustrated about?” he stated.

Throughout the match, Extra Bula FC effectively limited Vanuatu to only a few meaningful scoring opportunities while showcasing strong play. However, despite their solid defense, the final touch needed to convert chances into goals remained an elusive target.

Auvray described the experience of watching his team as a test of patience. “The biggest challenge is sitting on the bench and just watching us shooting on the crossbar, the goalkeeper, off target… the ball gets on the line but doesn’t get in. That’s the biggest frustration,” he admitted.

The mounting pressure from their scoring drought prompted Auvray to deviate from his usual tactical approach during the game. “I’m someone who is very patient and believes in the long-term process, and I think I lost this today. There was so much space to win the game that I kind of broke our structure and really played to win, which at the end of the day was not very productive,” Auvray reflected.

Players are also feeling the weight of the situation, as Adam Supyk expressed his sentiment after the match. “Frustrating probably is the word for me. We’re doing pretty much everything right apart from the final task of putting the ball in the goal.”

Despite the struggle, the team remains hopeful. Supyk emphasized that he believes once they score their first goal, a barrage of goals may follow, echoing a sense of optimism within the squad that they can soon turn their fortunes around.
