The Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation (FCEF), in partnership with the Tertiary Scholarship and Loan Service (TSLS), has launched the 2026 Graduate Business Start-Up Grant Scheme, a $500,000 initiative designed to empower aspiring entrepreneurs with innovative and viable business ideas. This program aims to cultivate a vibrant entrepreneurial landscape in Fiji.
The unveiling of the initiative took place during a formal event attended by distinguished guests, including Chief Guest Na Gone Marama Bale, Ro Teimumu Kepa, Dr. Apisalome Mavono, CEO of TSLS, and Eldon Eastgate, President of FCEF. A total of 22 graduates have already been accepted into the program, which has evolved from an initial budget of $300,000 in 2024 aimed at supporting 30 TSLS graduates. In its first year, the program successfully facilitated self-employment for 27 graduates, with 22 completing their training.
The initiative is facilitated by the Fiji Enterprise Engine (FEE), the country’s pioneering private sector-led business incubator and accelerator. A recent study by the Market Development Facility and the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs illustrated the impact of FEE alumni, who collectively generated sales revenue of $2.18 million from 2019 to 2023, created over 30 jobs, and acquired about $1.36 million in funding and financing.
As part of the program, participants will receive six months of comprehensive business development services. These services include market research, training in business operations, dedicated advisory and mentoring, as well as financial support for startup costs, with each participant eligible for a grant of FJ$5,000.
Additionally, an exciting announcement was made regarding the inclusion of the University of New South Wales as an international partner starting in 2026. This collaboration aligns with the Government’s strategic plan to enhance the role of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in contributing to Fiji’s GDP, aiming to increase it from the current 18 percent to 40 percent.
Training for the 2026 cohort will commence soon, with a ceremony planned for April to celebrate the successful participants, followed by business pitches and graduation in July. This initiative promises to create a bright future for the next generation of entrepreneurs in Fiji, underscoring a strong commitment to fostering innovation and driving economic growth in the region.
