The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) is poised to kick off the new year with a series of comprehensive visitations to every rugby union in the country, aimed at improving operational standards throughout the sport. FRU officials have recognized the significant challenges faced during the current year, prompting a proactive approach for 2024.

The FRU CEO outlined an ambitious strategy that will unfold in three phases, focusing on consultations, training, and education. Teams will travel across various unions to assess and enhance vital areas such as governance, coaching, training, accreditation, and adherence to participation terms.

“We will conduct three waves of visitation, consultation, and training and education. Starting in January, a team will visit each of our unions to assess everything from governance to coaching and education,” the CEO remarked. The clear intention is to audit each union, pinpoint weaknesses, and provide tailored strategies for improvement, ensuring all member unions align with established standards.

Additionally, the FRU is dedicated to tackling compliance issues by standardizing governance procedures and supporting coaching as well as player development. They plan to implement rigorous monitoring to guarantee adherence to rules and terms of participation. This initiative is anticipated to cultivate a stronger rugby environment in Fiji, promoting both growth and excellence in the sport.

The forward-thinking measures initiated by the FRU reflect a hopeful outlook for rugby unions across Fiji, emphasizing collaboration and support to uplift the entire rugby community. These efforts are set to foster a more competitive and thriving landscape for rugby, underlining the FRU’s commitment to the enhancement of the sport nationally.
