FOLSOM — A serious vehicle collision disrupted traffic along Folsom Boulevard just southwest of Iron Point Road on Wednesday morning. The incident involved at least two vehicles, one of which rolled over and struck a tree, leading to a substantial emergency response and extended lane restrictions that significantly affected the morning commute.
The Folsom Police Department issued an advisory advising motorists to steer clear of the area due to the ongoing investigation. The center lanes on Folsom Boulevard were closed, resulting in slow-moving traffic as emergency responders tended to the scene.
Emergency response crews were notified of the collision shortly after 6:15 a.m., prompting multiple units from the Folsom Fire Department and police to rush to the location. The incident, categorized as an expanded traffic collision, remained active for over an hour as crews worked to assess and manage the traffic impact.
Upon arriving at the scene, Folsom Times observed one vehicle overturned in the median after colliding with a large tree. The crash produced significant debris, with various car parts scattered across the roadside and the uprooted tree complicating cleanup efforts. City public works crews were called in to help clear the hazards and remove the fallen tree.
One male individual was transported to a local hospital with what authorities described as major injuries, as confirmed by Lieutenant Lou Wright of the Folsom Police Department. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
During the response and cleanup, traffic on Folsom Boulevard was limited to single lanes in both directions, leading to considerable delays for drivers. Backup extended onto eastbound Highway 50 from the connecting onramp. Officials advised motorists to consider alternate routes until the investigation and cleanup operation concluded.
Authorities indicated that traffic restrictions would continue until the damaged vehicles were cleared, the fallen tree was removed, and the investigation was complete.
This story is still developing, and Folsom Times will provide updates as more information becomes available and confirmed by officials.
