Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne has expressed his satisfaction with the performances of young props Tim Hyot and Atunaisa Sokobale during the team’s recent tour in Europe. Both players made their international debuts and handled the challenges of high-level rugby impressively, despite their relative inexperience.
Byrne praised Sokobale for his determination, particularly highlighting his standout try against Spain, which demonstrated his ability to rise to the occasion. “He really showed some real desire, and that’s what we’re looking for in those young guys,” Byrne commented. The coach also spoke highly of Hyot, who stepped in effectively for Eroni Mawi, emphasizing the importance of these experiences for the players’ growth.
“It’s a great opportunity for them to see what it’s like to be an international player,” Byrne noted, adding that both players were not only capable but also impressed with the pace and intensity of the game at this level.

Byrne stated, “Bringing Pita Gus in was a good chance to have a look at him as well,” underscoring the team’s commitment to nurturing talent.
