The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) is making significant strides in organizing logistics for the FIJI Water Flying Fijians ahead of the inaugural Nations Championship scheduled for July. With confirmed venues for their home games in the UK, a delegation from the FRU, including general manager of the high-performance unit Nacanieli Cawanibuka, CEO Koli Sewabu, and board directors Cathy Wong and Lailanie Burnes, are currently in London to assess various options for the team’s base during the championship.

FRU board chairman John Sanday emphasized that the team is exploring multiple logistical strategies. They are deciding whether to establish a single training camp from which to travel to the game venues or to set up different camps in Wales, England, and Scotland for preparation before each match. “All those different options are being evaluated,” Sanday stated, adding that the goal is to limit unnecessary travel to ensure the players remain well-rested and focused on performance.

A key factor influencing the decision will be funding, as the FRU anticipates receiving a participation fee of $2 million. This financial support is expected to cover a significant portion of the travel and accommodation expenses associated with the tournament. Sanday noted that negotiations are currently underway to maximize the effectiveness of these funds while maintaining the quality of the team’s preparation.

Fiji will kick off their Nations Championship campaign against Wales at Cardiff City Stadium on July 4, marking an exciting opportunity for the Flying Fijians to showcase their talent on a global stage. The preparation and planning by the FRU demonstrates a commitment to ensuring that the team is not only well-equipped but also primed for competitive success. This proactive approach bodes well for the team’s performance in the upcoming tournament.
