Municipal councils throughout Fiji’s Western Division have reported minimal infrastructural damage following a period of heavy rainfall. Taitusi Rasoki, the acting CEO of Lautoka City Council, emphasized that council workers are diligently addressing clogged drains, a common issue during such weather events.

In Rakiraki, CEO Peni Duaniwai confirmed that operations have resumed to normal, with only minor drainage problems noted. He indicated that local officials are closely monitoring the situation in anticipation of more rain and are keeping residents informed about any developments.

Over in Tavua, CEO Sireli Korovulavula mentioned that only slight flooding was observed near the Shop N Save Supermarket parking area, adjacent to the Nasivi River. He raised concerns regarding damage to Qalela Road and the loop road, both of which were washed away but remain passable, indicating that repairs will be needed soon.

Moshim Khan, the special administrator for Ba Town Council, reported significant rainfall without any flooding incidents. Similarly, Nadi Town Council’s special administrator Saliceni Raiwalui noted a temporary rise in floodwaters, which have since receded, indicating a return to stability in the area.

While attempts to reach Adish Naidu, the special administrator for Sigatoka Town Council, for further comments were unsuccessful, Fiji Roads Authority CEO Apisai Ketenalagi confirmed that all roads are operational.

This situation reflects the resilience of local authorities as they effectively manage weather-related challenges while prioritizing public safety and the integrity of infrastructure. The proactive approach exhibited by the councils showcases their determination to maintain essential services, even in adverse conditions, ensuring that the community remains well-equipped to handle fluctuating weather patterns.
