A shortage of personnel and essential resources is currently impacting health services in Northern Fiji. During a recent visit to health facilities including the Dreketi and Lekutu health centres and Nabouwalu Hospital, Assistant Health Minister Penioni Ravunawa acknowledged the challenges faced by frontline health workers in these areas.

Mr. Ravunawa reported that staff members had raised significant concerns regarding the lack of human resources, inadequate medicine and essential supplies, limited transport options, insufficient staff accommodations, and overall service delivery challenges. He emphasized the urgent need for improved planning for the health centres to tackle these issues effectively.

The Assistant Minister reassured health workers that the Government is dedicated to enhancing primary healthcare, ensuring that all Fijians have access to quality medical services. “I sincerely thank the team for your tireless service in 2025. Your dedication continues to save lives and strengthen our health system,” he stated.

This visit underscores the ongoing governmental efforts to fill the gaps within the healthcare system, particularly in more remote regions of the country. By addressing these critical shortages, there remains hope for a future where healthcare services can be improved and sustained for the well-being of all citizens.
