The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) has expressed its willingness to collaborate with the National Truth and Reconciliation Commission as part of a broader initiative aimed at fostering internal reconciliation and promoting national healing. This commitment was articulated by RFMF Commander Brigadier-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, who confirmed that preliminary discussions have already begun, signaling a proactive approach to enhancing their involvement.

Brigadier-General Kalouniwai emphasized the necessity of structuring the force’s participation in the reconciliation proceedings. He acknowledged the historical challenges Fiji has faced and underscored the importance of the reconciliation process in facilitating the country’s progression, despite some public dissent regarding the initiative.

“There are voices that want to be heard, and we will allow that to happen. The freedom of expression is there for everyone. It’s just a matter of being patient with the process,” he remarked, highlighting the RFMF’s commitment to acknowledging and listening to the voices and concerns of the populace as integral to national healing.

Reiterating his dedication to the cause, Brigadier-General Kalouniwai assured, “We’ll reach that end, we’ll reach the end of the tunnel.” He further noted that in the previous year, the RFMF had committed to focusing on internal reconciliation and restoration efforts before expanding to national endeavors, emphasizing the importance of building trust between the military and the public.

This collaborative approach marks a significant step towards healing and unity in Fiji, as the RFMF aims to bridge gaps and strengthen relationships with the community through mutual understanding and patience.
