This declaration follows concerns raised by Opposition MP Rinesh Sharma during a recent parliamentary session, prompting the LTA to emphasize a zero-tolerance approach towards unethical practices in all its operations. The authority has made it clear that any employee involved in corrupt conduct will face disciplinary action in line with its human resources policies and public service regulations.
In addition to this commitment, the LTA is prioritizing the enhancement of its internal controls, compliance systems, and staff training programs. These reforms aim to bolster transparency and integrity in service delivery, as part of a larger initiative to regain public trust and promote ethical standards within Fiji’s transport sector.
MP Rinesh Sharma has underscored the importance of effectively enforcing the no-bribery policy, particularly in relation to vehicle inspections and licensing procedures. He has suggested measures such as equipping officers with body cameras during inspections to further improve accountability and safety.
Leadership within the LTA, under CEO Irimaia Rokosawa, is also encouraging the community to report cases of non-compliance among public transport drivers.
