Local Government Minister Maciu Nalumisa has revealed that his ministry is prioritizing several essential infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing public services and community living standards. Among these initiatives are plans for a new market complex and a modern bus station, with construction activities expected to significantly increase in the upcoming financial year.
In a recent statement about local government developments, Nalumisa noted that while there are currently no active projects at the municipal level, tenders have been granted for a notable project: the Naboro Passenger Terminal, which is set to officially open next week. This terminal signifies a crucial advancement in public transportation services for the community.
The Minister also addressed an important initiative focused on upgrading informal settlements—a project being conducted with the Ministry of Housing. “This initiative is of great significance and is closely monitored by both departments,” Nalumisa emphasized. He expressed optimism about the possibility of designating certain areas as towns, highlighting this as one of his primary responsibilities, with announcements anticipated soon.
Additional plans from the ministry include the reopening of government parking areas, minor improvements to markets across Fiji, and strategies to elevate the status of more towns. These measures aim to enhance municipal services and provide improved support to local communities.
The focus on infrastructure investment and community development reflects a hopeful trajectory, suggesting a commitment to better living conditions and services for residents throughout the region. These developments not only promise to invigorate local economies but also aim to empower communities with improved access to essential resources and facilities.
