While many teenagers typically spend their school holidays relaxing, sixteen-year-old Jasvil Rokoro dedicated her New Year’s Eve to sharpening her cricket skills at the Albert Park grounds, gearing up for the upcoming U19 national trials. Hailing from a cricket-loving family in Bemana-Navosa, Rokoro began her journey in the sport as a water girl for her parents’ cricket club, eventually making her debut on the field.

In a relatively short time, Rokoro has firmly established herself in Fiji’s cricket scene. She has already represented the nation in both the senior women’s team and the U19 team, demonstrating her impressive talent at a young age. Reflecting on her recent experiences, she shared, “In 2024, I went to Bali as part of the U19 Fiji team, and then earlier this year (2025) I joined the senior women’s team. We went to New Caledonia and then hosted another tournament here in Fiji.”

As she looks ahead to the U19 national trials, Rokoro has set clear goals for both her personal development and team contribution. “As one of the senior players for the U19, my goal is to learn as much as I can so that I can inspire my team,” she stated. “But also I will look to them to help me and show me where I can become better as a player.”

Though cricket remains a minor sport in Fiji, Rokoro’s aspirations are high. She dreams of becoming a professional cricketer and securing an overseas contract, showcasing her determination and passion for the game. Her journey serves as an inspiration for young athletes in the region, reminding them that with dedication and hard work, achieving one’s dreams in sports is possible.
