Fijians will experience a rise in cooking gas prices starting tomorrow, as announced by the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC). The new regulated prices for fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) products will take immediate effect.
According to the updated pricing, a 4.5 kg cylinder of cooking gas will now cost $13.56, reflecting an increase of 23 cents. The larger, 12 kg cylinder will see a significant rise, priced at $36.17, an increase of 62 cents. In terms of bulk gas, the price will be set at $2.79 per liter, while auto gas will rise by four cents, bringing it to $1.92.
In a notable contrast, the prices for fuel are set to decrease. From tomorrow, motor spirit will drop by six cents to $2.55 per liter, with the premix price also falling to $2.39. Kerosene will see a reduction of 12 cents, resulting in a new price of $1.74 per liter, while diesel will decrease to $2.18.
The FCCC has assured the public of its commitment to ensuring compliance with these newly set prices. Inspectors will be monitoring wholesale and retail outlets, as well as service stations, to confirm adherence to the authorized prices for both petroleum and LPG products. These prices represent the maximum allowable charges, allowing vendors the flexibility to sell below these prices as they choose.
This proactive stance taken by the FCCC, which includes ongoing inspections in the weeks ahead, is designed to promote a fair pricing environment for consumers. The efforts of the commission underscore its dedication to regulating the market effectively and protecting the interests of the Fijian public, ultimately fostering greater trust and transparency in the pricing of essential commodities.
