More than 4,000 applications for the Back-to-School Assistance program are currently undergoing verification, as students dive into the seventh week of the academic term. Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro reported that out of a total of 212,845 submitted applications, an impressive 208,764 have received approval, which translates to a 98 percent approval rate.

The government has allocated a significant $42.1 million for this initiative, aimed at covering school fees and other education-related expenses. Of this amount, $41.8 million has already been distributed directly to families to help with essential school costs.

Radrodro noted that the 4,081 pending applications are primarily due to issues like duplicate submissions or incomplete information. The ministry is collaborating closely with the Ministry of Finance to address these matters promptly. To reassure parents and guardians, the minister emphasized that efforts are being made to ensure that no eligible child is overlooked as the ministry finalizes the assistance process.

This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to supporting education and ensuring that access to schooling remains equitable for all families. With a strong approval rate and ongoing efforts to resolve outstanding applications, there is optimism that the program will continue to have a positive impact on students and their families.
