The Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma is spearheading a new initiative aimed at fostering national unity through a comprehensive 3-Year Prayer and Fasting Framework. This ambitious plan is designed to enhance spiritual renewal and social responsibility throughout the nation, addressing the increasing social issues that affect families and communities.
The official pre-launch of this framework took place in collaboration with the Ministry of Policing and the Ministry of Communications, where leaders from both the church and government emphasized the importance of a unified response to the pressing challenges faced by society. Minister for Policing, Ioane Naivalurua, underscored the necessity of coming together to protect the future generations. He stated, “If we stand together, government, church, Vanua, communities, we create protection around our children, and protection around our future.”
This framework is designed to mobilize congregations across Fiji over the next three years, promoting organized periods of prayer and fasting while encouraging community engagement and moral accountability. Semisi Turagavou, President of the Methodist Church, highlighted that this initiative extends beyond church boundaries, inviting broader participation from various sectors of society.
Turagavou expressed, “We must come together, and work together and move together as one people.” He called on traditional leaders, non-governmental organizations, and other Christian denominations to join in this collective effort. The church leaders believe that the strength of unity among faith-based organizations, traditional leadership, civil society, and government institutions could effectively tackle the urgent social challenges currently facing the country.
Through this initiative, the Methodist Church aims not only to strengthen spiritual practices but also to foster a spirit of cooperation among diverse community members, ultimately striving for a more united and responsible society.
