Weightlifting Fiji is seeing a surge of promising young talent, as head coach Henry Elder has reported significant progress from several newcomers during training sessions. This influx is not only exciting for the federation but also signifies a bright future for the sport in Fiji.

Elder remarked on the impressive achievements of the new recruits, expressing optimism that the public might soon witness the rise of future stars reminiscent of Taniela Rainibogi. The athletes, part of Elder’s development squad, vary in age, with some even being primary school children, showcasing the federation’s commitment to nurturing talent from the grassroots level.

“You can expect to see some very exciting athletes emerge from this young squad in the coming years. Even though they are very young and new to the sport, they have shown strong performances in training. I’m excited to see what 2026 holds for us and these young lifters,” Elder shared.

Recently, Weightlifting Fiji wrapped up its final training session of the year at the Rabuka Gym in Suva, with plans to resume preparations for the 2026 season on Friday. This dedication to developing athletes from an early age marks a transformative moment for weightlifting in the country. As these young talents continue to hone their skills, they could potentially elevate Fiji’s standing in international weightlifting competitions, igniting hope for a successful future.
