Six weightlifting athletes from Fiji have commenced a six-week training camp in Apia, Samoa, led by head coach Henry Elder. This intensive training program signals an exciting start for the team as they prepare for the 2026 sporting season.

Coach Elder emphasized that the athletes have eagerly anticipated this opportunity, which will not only bolster their skills but also enrich their experience in the sport. “This training camp is for six weeks; it’s an intensive training camp,” he noted.

Fiji will be joining forces with Samoan athletes during this camp, and there will additionally be participation from other countries, including the Marshall Islands, Papua New Guinea, Nauru, New Zealand, and Australia. Elder mentioned that the Fijian athletes involved are specifically focused on qualifying for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

“The team from Fiji will remain in Samoa for the longest duration, and the athletes attending this camp are all aiming to qualify for this year’s Commonwealth Games,” he shared, showcasing the team’s commitment to their goals.

Elder expressed optimism regarding the team’s performance and conveyed gratitude towards the support received from the Government, sponsors, and families. He acknowledged that financial support from the Government is vital for participating in training camps like this, and he thanked supporters for their continuous encouragement.

Having departed for Samoa yesterday, the Fijian team is enthusiastic and prepared to make the most of the training camp, working diligently towards their ambitions in weightlifting. The focus on teamwork and international collaboration during this camp is likely to foster positive results as they strive for success on the Commonwealth stage.
