Mr. Tudravu reflected on the year’s theme, “Smart Tech, Safe Choices — Exploring the Safe and Responsible Use of AI,” urging attendees to focus not just on immediate discussions about digital safety but to foster an ongoing dialogue. He pointed out that with artificial intelligence being one of the most rapidly adopted technologies in history, it is critical for communities to improve their digital awareness to navigate its inherent risks effectively.
He acknowledged the rise of online abuse and the troubling role of “keyboard warriors” who use anonymity to spread hatred and dissent. This misuse of social media is exacerbated by the capabilities of AI, creating an even more complex environment for online interactions. Additionally, he noted the increasing prevalence of computer-related offenses, particularly intimate image abuse and unauthorized account access, underscoring that nearly 60% of cybercrimes involve such violations.
Looking towards the future, Commissioner Tudravu announced his vision for 2026 as a year of “uniformity” within policing efforts, advocating for a collaborative approach among stakeholders. He stressed the need for cohesive responses to the challenges presented by digital technologies, emphasizing the importance of instilling digital literacy from a young age to better equip future generations.
