Badminton Fiji’s secretary, Abel Caine, is calling on the Fijian community in Auckland to lend their support to Fiji’s men’s and women’s teams during the upcoming Oceania Championships. Caine highlights that strong local backing is vital as badminton gains traction in Fiji.
He draws attention to the fact that the championship will have free entry, making it a perfect opportunity for fans to witness the competition up close and offer their encouragement to the athletes. “I’m calling on all Fijians in Auckland; the Oceania is free of cost. Almost never in the past have our Fiji teams experienced the support of the Fijian crowd,” Caine remarked.
Set to take place at the North Harbor Badminton Centre in Auckland, the tournament will feature four female and six male athletes representing Fiji. This event is a significant moment for promoting badminton within the Fijian community and enhancing national pride through sporting achievements. With the community’s support, there is optimism that these athletes will excel on the international stage, demonstrating their dedication and skill in a sport that continues to evolve in Fiji.
