Fiji Unveils Redesigned Banknotes with Enhanced Security and Accessibility

The Reserve Bank of Fiji (RBF) is set to unveil a new series of banknotes designed to improve durability, security, and accessibility. Governor Ariff Ali announced that these redesigned notes will utilize advanced materials and innovative security features to combat counterfeiting effectively.

The new banknotes will feature designs that celebrate Fiji’s rich culture, biodiversity, and heritage, with specific elements aimed at helping visually impaired users. “As part of our statutory responsibility under the Reserve Bank of Fiji Act 1983, the RBF undertakes detailed technical and design reviews of Fiji’s currency to ensure that it meets national requirements and international standards,” stated Governor Ali.

An official launch by President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu is scheduled to take place in Suva next month, with the new banknotes expected to be available to the public starting January 2 next year. This initiative highlights the RBF’s commitment to maintaining modern and secure currency standards, adapting to evolving economic conditions.

The introduction of these redesigned banknotes follows the bank’s routine review process, which is conducted every 10 to 12 years to ensure that the currency remains current in quality and design. This effort is part of the RBF’s broader objective to innovate and modernize Fiji’s financial landscape, ultimately contributing to the nation’s economic stability.

This positive development comes as the Fijian economy exhibits resilience and recovery, supported by a strong level of foreign reserves and a rebound in the services sector, notably in tourism. With planned enhancements in the digital payment ecosystem, Fiji is on track to foster a more inclusive and efficient financial system, laying the groundwork for sustained economic growth and increasing security for its citizens.
