Fiji is setting its sights on achieving high-income status by the year 2050, necessitating an ambitious average annual growth rate of 5.7 percent. This objective is highlighted in the recent Fiji Growth and Jobs Report released by the World Bank Group, which emphasizes job creation and workforce enhancement as pivotal factors in the nation’s long-term economic transformation.

Prime Minister and Acting Minister for Finance, Sitiveni Rabuka, hailed the report as a major milestone for Fiji, offering a transparent overview of the country’s economic situation. He underscored the importance of a committed effort to bolster growth performance in order to realize the high-income aspiration by mid-century.

Rabuka expressed his confidence in the World Bank’s recommendations, pledging that they will be developed into a cohesive reform and investment program complete with specific timelines and accountability measures to ensure effective implementation.

The report delineates five critical priority areas that are essential for sustaining economic growth: creating a business-friendly environment, enhancing market competition, attracting foreign direct investment, promoting a healthier workforce, and increasing women’s participation in the labor force.
