Institutional investors are playing a pivotal role in boosting trading activity on the South Pacific Stock Exchange (SPX), fueling renewed confidence and enthusiasm in Fiji’s capital market. SPX Chief Sheraj Obeyeskere noted that larger investors have increased their transactional frequency, a trend that began in 2024 and has shown continuous growth into 2025.

Obeyeskere emphasized that the heightened activity from institutional investors is a positive sign, indicating enhanced market confidence and improved liquidity. This trend has coincided with strong performances from listed companies, further reinforcing the market’s stability.

In a noteworthy observation, the interest among local Fijians in stock market investments has surged. Last year, new investor participation soared by approximately 160% to 170% compared to the previous year, marking a significant rise in individuals eager to engage with the stock market. Key market performance indicators also reflect this upward trend, highlighting a growing public enthusiasm for stock market investments.

The amalgamation of increased institutional presence, robust corporate results, and the influx of new retail investors suggests that Fiji’s capital market is gaining momentum. This supportive environment presents a promising foundation for the ongoing development of the country’s financial landscape, suggesting an optimistic outlook for the future of investment in Fiji.
