The Fiji Airways men’s 7s team remains resolute and focused as they continue their journey in the HSBC Sevens World Series, despite experiencing disappointing finishes in recent tournaments. The squad achieved third place in both the Dubai and Cape Town legs of the tournament during November and December of last year.

Head coach Osea Kolinisau highlighted the team’s unwavering spirit, asserting that their determination remains intact as the series unfolds. He reflected on their competitive performance, stating, “Our determination hasn’t changed. I think we are not far off,” about their recent narrow losses in the semi-finals of the two events. In Dubai, Fiji faced New Zealand in the semi-final, narrowly losing 21-24, but they rallied to defeat France 24-7 for third place. The Cape Town leg saw them fall 21-29 to Argentina, followed by another victory over France, this time 26-19, securing third place.

Kolinisau acknowledged the obstacles the team faces but emphasized that their goal of clinching a gold medal remains steadfast. “We go to every tournament wanting to win. I know the boys, they don’t go into a tournament not intending to finish in third place,” he stated. His remarks underscore the team’s commitment to competing at the highest level and maintaining a positive outlook as they press on in the series.

With the Singapore 7s on the horizon, scheduled for January 31 to February 1, the Fiji team is diligently refining their strategies and learning from past performances. Their preparation reflects a hopefulness and determination to achieve their objectives and improve their standing in the HSBC Sevens World Series, showcasing their resilience and dedication.
