Fiji Airways Fiji men’s team captain Jerry Matana has emphasized the importance of seriousness as the team prepares for the upcoming Singapore 7s tournament. With a well-finished preparation phase, Matana indicated that the time for fun is over and execution of the skills learned in training is now crucial.
Matana acknowledged the challenge of securing a spot on the final team, highlighting the competition among talented players in the extended squad. Each member of the final team has earned their place, and this achievement is viewed as a personal victory for the individuals. He has called on fans to rally behind the team, expressing that their support is a significant motivator. “I urge them to please pray for the boys. It’s not going to be easy, but I can assure everyone that the boys will put their bodies on the line on game day,” Matana stated.
The Fiji men’s 7s team is entering the tournament as defending champions, having triumphed over Kenya in the finals last year, with this marking their fourth time competing for the Singapore title.
As they head into the matches, Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s coach Osea Kolinisau acknowledged the pressure that comes with expectations of victory, common in Fijian rugby culture. He stressed the importance of managing that pressure effectively, transforming it into positive performance. Kolinisau underscored that success in the series will not come easily, necessitating hard work and determination.
