Minister for Public Enterprises, Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts, Charan Jeath Singh, has charted a significant strategic direction for Fiji Rice Pte Limited, emphasizing the importance of enhancing commercial performance, engaging youth, and ensuring long-term food security.

During a recent visit to the Dreketi Mill, Singh engaged with the board, chief executive officer, management, and staff, evaluating the company’s operations and future potential. The discussions included insights into production trends, financial performance, and ongoing infrastructure improvements aimed at expansion.

Singh highlighted the vital role of Fiji Rice as a national asset, emphasizing its responsibilities that extend beyond agribusiness. He pointed out that the company plays a critical role in supporting local farmers, enhancing food security, and contributing to the agricultural sector at large.

The Minister underscored the necessity for Fiji Rice, as a public enterprise, to bolster productivity, increase revenue, improve commercial discipline, and gradually lessen its dependence on government support. While reiterating the government’s commitment to providing ongoing support, he also emphasized that such backing should be accompanied by accountability, measurable outcomes, and effective execution.

With an optimistic outlook, Singh expressed confidence that effective leadership and strategic reforms can lead the company towards improved financial independence, ensuring that it continues to serve the nation’s interests effectively.
