The Fiji Police Force is urging citizens to behave responsibly as the New Year celebrations draw near, reaffirming that law enforcement operations will be rigorously enforced across the country. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Kasiano Vusonilawe, acknowledged an encouraging trend in public attitudes towards alcohol consumption, indicating a growing commitment within the community to reduce alcohol-related offenses.

Vusonilawe noted that police officers have received thorough briefings to ensure a safe environment for the festivities. He confirmed that police have already intervened in cases involving public drinking and disorderly behavior, emphasizing that these enforcement actions will persist as celebrations continue into the New Year across Fiji.

To tackle the issue of illegal alcohol sales, community policing officers are actively collaborating with local leaders, particularly in rural areas, to confront this challenge. Reports of bootlegging in villages and remote locations have raised concerns, prompting police to encourage the public to report any such illicit activities immediately.

The Assistant Commissioner underscored the importance of individual responsibility regarding alcohol consumption, urging citizens to make mindful choices that protect themselves and their families. He also encouraged the community to report illegal liquor sales directly to him at 9904 905.

This proactive stance, coupled with community collaboration, is expected to foster a safer and more enjoyable New Year for all in Fiji. By working together, the police and the public aim to maintain order and deter illegal activities during this festive season.
