Fiji Police Urge Public to Stop Pointing Lasers at Aircraft

The Fiji Police Force is renewing its urgent appeal to the public to cease the hazardous practice of pointing laser lights at aircraft. Officials warn that this reckless behavior endangers not only the pilots but also the passengers on board.

Despite numerous warnings, reports from tower operators in both Nadi and Nausori indicate a continued trend of laser lights being directed at incoming aircraft during descent. This troubling situation poses serious safety risks, as pilots can be distracted or momentarily blinded during critical flight operations.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, has previously echoed these concerns in discussions with civil aviation authorities. He emphasized that such actions could have devastating consequences and urged anyone who observes this illegal activity to come forward. Members of the public can report incidents by contacting their nearest police station, calling 917, or reaching out to Crimestoppers at 919.

The police’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety of air travel is evident in their proactive approach to this matter. By encouraging community vigilance and prompt reporting, authorities hope to curb this dangerous trend and protect all those who take to the skies.
