Fiji Police Rugby League coach Sale Tubuna has revealed that his team is currently “about 60 percent ready” as they intensify preparations for the eagerly awaited Sukuna Bowl rugby league clash against the Army, set for next Wednesday. With only a week left until the important matchup, Tubuna admits that while the squad is still finding its groove, blending a mix of new talent with experienced players, their confidence remains high as they strive to reclaim the title they last held three years ago.
After six weeks of training that incorporated various fresh faces, including individuals transitioning from rugby union competitions like the Vanua Cup, Tubuna views the integration process as both challenging and rewarding. He emphasizes the value of introducing new ideas into their training sessions and the significance of this critical period for assessing their team’s progress. The roster features seven newcomers from the West and two from the North, all united in their goal to perform well on game day.
Earlier this year, Tubuna successfully guided the Police women’s team to victory in the FNRLW Championship, and he is now dedicated to revitalizing the men’s squad. The team’s morale is further boosted by strong support from families and members of the Fiji Police Force, adding an extra layer of motivation as they gear up to face their rivals.
As the match day approaches, the Police team is focused on raising their training intensity in the final week leading up to the significant game. The Sukuna Bowl will kick off next week, where the Police aim to restore pride in their performance against the Defence Force. The match is scheduled for 1 PM at Bidesi Park in Laucala Bay, Suva.
Alongside the rugby league competition, the Sukuna Bowl festivities will also include various sports events, such as soccer matches, which will be broadcast live for supporters wishing to follow the action from afar. This enthusiasm reflects the growing community spirit surrounding the event, highlighting the deep-rooted rivalry between the teams. The upcoming matches promise not only fierce competition but also a celebration of sportsmanship and unity within the Fijian community.
