The Vodafone Fiji Ratu Sukuna Bowl Police Touch Rugby team is taking proactive steps to positively influence the community outside of their sporting activities. Aligning with this year’s tournament theme, “United for Victory – Stronger Together Against Drugs and HIV,” the team participated in a recent awareness session designed to equip officers with essential knowledge aimed at mitigating the impact of drug use and HIV within Fijian communities.
The session, which took place in Suva, was led by Dr. Sayal Sonika from the Sexual and Reproductive Health Clinic. Officers learned practical strategies for engaging with the public and promoting health-conscious decisions. With this newfound understanding, police officers intend to leverage community engagement platforms, including sports events, to amplify awareness regarding the dangers of drug usage and unsafe practices.
The commitment extends beyond mere participation; the team aims to be actively involved in raising awareness, underlining that effective prevention starts with informed choices and mutual support among community members.
A highlight of the initiative will be the upcoming Sukuna Touch Rugby challenge, featuring a friendly competition between the Fiji Police and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces on Tuesday, November 18, at the Nasova Grounds. This much-anticipated match is set to kick off at 9 a.m. and promises not only thrilling rugby action but also the delivery of a critical message to the community about the importance of unity and awareness in the fight against drugs and HIV.
