Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that an appeal will be filed following a High Court ruling regarding the dismissal of the former Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption. The Prime Minister’s statement highlighted that the government acknowledged the Court’s decision to permit a judicial review concerning the legitimacy of the Commission of Inquiry.

Rabuka expressed his commitment to ensuring that the government responds through the appropriate legal channels. He emphasized his appreciation for the court proceedings that demonstrate the effectiveness of democracy in Fiji, the importance of the separation of powers, and the lack of executive influence over judicial matters.

Furthermore, he remarked that the rule of law remains a fundamental principle, asserting that the government will continue to uphold constitutional processes while respecting the independence of Fiji’s institutions. This approach cultivates an environment of trust in the legal system and reinforces the country’s democratic framework.

The Prime Minister’s stance reflects a hopeful outlook for continued respect for democratic institutions and processes in Fiji.
