The Ministry of Policing and Communications has called upon the public to participate in nationwide consultations regarding a proposed Counter Narcotics Bill, which seeks to establish and empower a new Counter Narcotics Bureau. This initiative aims to enhance the government’s capacity to combat drug trafficking and related offenses effectively.

In its statement, the Ministry highlighted that comprehensive consultations will take place across the nation to collect opinions, concerns, and suggestions from individuals, communities, and organizations about the proposed legislation and the powers it would grant to the new bureau.

All members of the public—including civil society organizations, private institutions, and other stakeholders—are encouraged to submit written feedback, expressing their views on the potential impact of the proposed bill. These submissions can be directed to cnbill@policing.gov.fj, with the deadline for online submissions set for 11:59 PM on Monday, February 23, 2026.

In addition to written submissions, the consultation team will hold in-person meetings throughout Fiji from February 9 to February 23, 2026. Individuals and organizations interested in the proposed changes are invited to attend these sessions at designated venues across various divisions.

The Ministry has emphasized that this consultation process aims to ensure that the proposed law aligns with public interests, strengthens Fiji’s efforts to tackle illicit drugs, and fosters transparency and accountability within the proposed agency. This initiative reflects a proactive approach to engaging citizens in shaping drug policy and combating drug-related issues in the country.
