A flash flood warning is currently in effect for all of Fiji, as stated by the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi. The latest weather bulletin issued at 8 am highlights the influence of an active trough of low pressure that is bringing substantial cloud cover and rain across the Fiji Group, significantly elevating the risk of flash flooding.
Isolated heavy downpours are particularly expected to affect low-lying and flood-prone areas, leading to potential hazards. The primary risks include flooding of drainage systems, small streams, and low water bridges, as well as inundation of roads and properties situated in vulnerable regions.
Tide information shows that Lautoka recorded a high tide of 1.55 meters at 3:44 PM, while a low tide of 0.70 meters was noted at 9:23 AM. In Suva, a high tide of 1.51 meters is anticipated at 4:28 PM, following a low tide of 0.60 meters at 10:07 AM.
Authorities are urging the public to stay vigilant, especially in light of the heavy rain forecasted. Residents are advised to avoid flooded roads and crossings, and to exercise caution during adverse weather conditions. Those living in low-lying areas should closely monitor local conditions and be prepared to relocate to higher ground if necessary, ensuring their safety during this period of heightened flood risk.
