The Fiji Netball Association (FNA) is poised for important changes as it convened a meeting focused on revising its constitution. The meeting, attended by 13 dedicated members, sought to forge a clear and equitable vision for the future of netball in the country.
Vivian Koster, a former CEO of Netball Fiji and the current Oceania Netball Regional director, emphasized the significance of this gathering. She described it as the launch of a transformative year, with the aspiration of finalizing a new constitution. Koster praised the commitment shown by the members involved, highlighting their teamwork in reviewing and implementing essential changes.
Koster shared insights into the progress made, stating, “We started off the new year with what we hope is the final draft of our new constitution; it has been a long process.” She acknowledged the dedication of the 13-member group in thoroughly examining the document and making necessary adjustments.
Central to the proposed changes is the governance structure of Netball Fiji. The association plans to shift from an executive committee model to a board of management, a transition that has long been anticipated.
“It’s going to be a new structure for Netball Fiji, and a new way of doing things. We are setting everything in place for the year,” Koster remarked. She emphasized that the alterations are intended to strengthen the governance framework, moving towards a more organized board of management.
Highlighting the need for a strong and comprehensive document, Koster pointed out the importance of eliminating loopholes and ensuring that the growth of all netball clubs and associations in Fiji is adequately represented. “We must ensure that this is a robust document, and that every Netball club and Association sees their growth represented within it,” she asserted.
Characterized as a productive session, the meeting led to significant agreements on the new constitutional framework. With an optimistic outlook for the future of netball in Fiji, the FNA is committed to establishing a solid foundation that will facilitate progressive growth and development in the sport for years to come. This concerted effort not only aims to improve governance but also seeks to empower the netball community across the nation.
