Fiji Movember Bike Show Ignites Prostate Cancer Awareness

The Fiji Motorcyclists Association (FMA) successfully hosted the FMA Movember Bike Show on Saturday evening, contributing to a nationwide movement aimed at increasing awareness about prostate cancer and men’s health. This event, which took place at the Fortech Complex Carpark in Nokonoko, Laucala Beach, was organized in collaboration with the Fiji Cancer Society and the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

Under the theme “Bikers for Prostate Cancer: Save It or Shave It,” the Bike Show served not only as a showcase of motorcycles but also as a platform to enhance public understanding of men’s health issues while advocating for road safety in Fiji. The atmosphere was vibrant, filled with the roar of engines and a gathering of community members united for a cause greater than their love for biking.

A highlight of the night was a moving speech from Alanieta Buloucereluki of the Fiji Cancer Society. She described the event as “a sight to behold,” emphasizing its significance as a gathering for a noble purpose. “Today we ride for our fathers, brothers, sons, uncles, and friends,” she remarked. Buloucereluki stressed that many men struggle silently with health concerns, urging them that true strength lies in speaking out, seeking check-ups, and asking for help.

She also elaborated on the extensive work done by the Fiji Cancer Society, including counseling services, financial assistance, community outreach, and cancer screenings in areas with limited healthcare access. Her words underscored the importance of ongoing discourse surrounding men’s health, declaring that “conversation saves lives.”

This event resonates with a growing trend in Fiji focused on improving awareness of men’s health issues, paralleling initiatives like the family-friendly boot camp organized by the Fiji Cancer Society and Australian Defence Force, which similarly aimed to foster discussions about men’s physical and mental health. The commitment demonstrated by various organizations to address these critical issues reflects a collective spirit of support within the community.

These gatherings not only celebrate the love of motorcycling and physical fitness but also serve as vital platforms for advocating health awareness among men. As communities continue to engage in open discussions about these sometimes-overlooked topics, the hope is to create an environment where men feel supported in seeking help and adopting healthier lifestyles.
