The Navatusila Grid Extension Project in Nabutautau, Navosa, was officially inaugurated yesterday by Hon. Ro Filipe Tuisawau, the Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport. This initiative is a major step in the Fijian Government’s plan to ensure universal electricity access, particularly in rural and remote communities.

The project, which has been funded entirely by the Government at a cost of $5.4 million, has successfully connected ten villages and one settlement, benefiting a total of 407 households and around 2,035 residents. Key activities completed under this initiative included extending the main power grid and installing safe house wiring, which guarantees homes will receive a consistent and reliable electricity supply.

Minister Tuisawau highlighted that the introduction of electricity is poised to significantly transform the local community. It is expected to enhance learning conditions for students, improve health service accessibility, spur small business development, and increase agricultural productivity. He also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of community leaders, Energy Fiji Limited (EFL), and ministry officials, thanking the residents of Navatusila for their patience throughout the project’s implementation.

Tuisawau emphasized that this commissioning goes beyond mere infrastructure development; it represents a pivotal leap toward greater opportunities and empowerment for the people of Navatusila. The project serves as a testament to the Fijian Government’s dedication to fostering growth and elevating the quality of life for its citizens, particularly in underserved areas. This initiative not only addresses immediate needs but also lays the groundwork for sustainable community development in the future.
