The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) has officially endorsed the Civic Awareness Campaign initiated by the Ministry of Local Government to gear up for the upcoming Local Government Elections. This campaign signifies a crucial step as Fiji embarks on its journey towards a highly anticipated electoral event.
Anaseini Senimoli, the Acting Deputy Supervisor of Elections, expressed the FEO’s enthusiasm, noting that this initiative marks the official beginning of preparations for the elections. The campaign is the culmination of over two years of consultations and partnerships involving the Ministry, Municipal Councils, and various stakeholders, and the FEO is eager to see it take shape.
Senimoli emphasized the importance of the Civic Awareness Campaign in empowering communities with a better understanding of local government functions, the responsibilities of elected councillors, and the significance of participating in elections. This awareness is vital for fostering civic engagement and promoting informed voter participation.
The launch event featured not only the introduction of the Civic Awareness Campaign but also technical sessions with Municipal Councils and the FEO, focusing on election administration resources and civic education messaging. These efforts are aimed at equipping local leaders with the necessary knowledge to engage their communities effectively in the electoral process, ensuring a more informed electorate as Fiji approaches this significant occasion.
The commitment to civic education highlights a hopeful future for enhanced democratic participation, enabling citizens to play an active role in their local governance.
