The Judicial Services Commission (JSC) held a meeting this afternoon to address several urgent matters related to the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC). JSC Secretary Tomasi Bainivalu revealed that the discussions focused on a recent decision by Justice Tuiqereqere regarding HBJ05 of 2025, dated February 2, as well as allegations made by a whistleblower, which the JSC received earlier this week. Additional points of concern included the arrest of Charlie Charters by FICAC.

After thorough and thoughtful deliberation, the Commission reached a consensus on specific recommendations, which will be communicated to President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu following consultations with Acting Attorney-General Siromi Turaga. Bainivalu indicated that these recommendations are expected to be delivered to the Office of the President by the close of business tomorrow.

The Secretary emphasized the Commission’s recognition of public concerns regarding these issues. He reassured the public that, while the JSC addresses these matters, it remains firmly committed to its constitutional responsibilities. The JSC’s mandate is to uphold the rule of law, ensure the integrity of the judiciary, and protect the independence of judicial institutions. Through its diligent work, the Commission aims to maintain public trust in the legal system and reinforce the principles of justice and accountability within Fiji’s judiciary.
