The Fijian government has pledged its support to the Fiji Rugby Union and the Fiji Rugby Referees Association, marking a significant step towards enhancing the development of rugby in the country. This commitment was articulated by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, during his keynote address at the inaugural Fiji Rugby Referees Awards held at Vodafone Arena in Suva over the weekend.

Saukuru expressed the government’s readiness to assist both the rugby union and the referees association. He emphasized the essential role that referees play in maintaining the integrity of the sport, stating, “Your contribution drives our success.” His remarks were met with applause from the audience, underscoring the importance of referees in the rugby community.

With an optimistic outlook for the future, Saukuru acknowledged the hard work and dedication of Fiji’s rugby referees. He remarked on their unwavering professionalism amidst the pressures they face from players, fans, and officials alike. “Without your tireless effort, no match, no matter how passionate, can truly succeed,” he noted, applauding the referees for their sacrifices and commitment to rigorous training and understanding of the game.

Interim chairman of the Fiji Rugby Referees Association, Talemo Waqa, also expressed gratitude toward the Minister for his supportive address, reinforcing the collaborative spirit between the government and rugby organizations in Fiji. This partnership marks an exciting new chapter for rugby in the nation, promising continued growth and success for both referees and players alike.
