Telecom Fiji has launched a significant partnership aimed at enhancing the country’s disaster preparedness through improved communication infrastructure. This collaboration involves key national organizations including Live & Learn Fiji, the National Disaster Risk Management Office, the Fiji Meteorological Service, the Ministry of Disaster Management, the Ministry of Communications, Telecom Authority of Fiji, and other telecommunications service providers.
The objective of this strategic alliance is to fortify the Multi-Hazard Early Warning System, ensuring that various warning systems operate seamlessly together during emergencies. A vital component of this initiative is the use of the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP), an international standard facilitating the simultaneous distribution of emergency alerts across multiple platforms—such as SMS, radio, television, mobile applications, websites, and sirens.
Telecom Fiji’s Chief Executive, Charles Goundar, emphasized that enhancing Fiji’s early warning capabilities extends beyond technical improvements; it reflects a dedicated commitment to safeguarding lives.
