The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has issued a public warning following a stretch of intense rainfall that has caused considerable flooding across various roads and crossings in the Western Division. As a result, multiple roads are now closed or inaccessible, prompting heightened caution among motorists and other road users.

Among the key locations affected are Katudrau Crossing and Narara 1 Crossing in Rakiraki, both of which are currently closed to all traffic. In Lautoka, several major routes, including Saru Back Road, Vaivai Road, and Navula Road, have been reported flooded and rendered impassable. Additionally, Buabua Flats on Buabua Road is facing limited access due to a narrowing of the road to a single lane, while surface flooding has been observed at the junction of Kings Road and Field 4 Road. Vunisamaloa Road in Ba has also become impassable due to the severe flooding.

The FRA has urged the public to steer clear of known flood-prone areas and to seek alternative routes to ensure their safety. Motorists are advised to exercise caution, lower their speed, and comply with any traffic advisories regarding the ongoing flood conditions.

This event highlights the significant effects of severe weather on infrastructure and underlines the necessity for vigilance during adverse weather. By adhering to safety guidelines and staying informed, road users can help protect themselves and others on the road, fostering a culture of safety and consideration during challenging weather conditions.
