A mother of four is urgently seeking assistance for her 13-year-old daughter, Jiya Geetanjali Prasad, who requires specialized eye treatment not available in Fiji. Evlin Ashika Devi has received confirmation from the Colonial War Memorial Hospital that Jiya needs an amniotic membrane grafting procedure, which must be carried out in India.

To facilitate this critical treatment, Ms. Devi aims to raise over $5,000, a financial burden that encompasses not only the procedure but also the costs associated with travel for her husband and mother, who will accompany Jiya. Expenses will include round-trip airfare, accommodation, and food during their stay in India. Ms. Devi shared, “The hospital has warned us that if there are any complications, their stay in India may be extended, leading to additional costs,” underlining the urgency and uncertainty of their situation.

Jiya’s battle with eye health issues began when she was just six years old, initially displaying symptoms like swollen eyes and redness in her lenses. Despite various treatments at the Pacific Eye Institute, her condition has significantly declined, leaving her uncomfortable and unable to open her eyes.

In January, doctors informed her family that local facilities were unable to perform the necessary surgery and that seeking specialized treatment in India was the only option.

Those wishing to help can make donations to Evlin Ashika Devi’s BSP account (number 87407367) or via M-Paisa at 2721696.

Ms. Devi is optimistic that with the support of the community, her daughter will receive the essential medical care she needs, paving the way for a healthier future and the opportunity to return to her education.
