Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo, will assume the role of Acting Prime Minister while Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is on an official visit to Japan this week. This trip, at the invitation of the Government of Japan, is intended to strengthen Fiji’s long-standing partnership with Japan, which is founded on shared values of democracy, peace, and sustainable development.
During his stay, Prime Minister Rabuka will participate in several official engagements, including a bilateral meeting with Japan’s newly elected and first female Prime Minister, Ms. Takaichi Sanae. The highlight of the visit will be the signing of the Lomavata–Kizuna Partnership joint communiqué, which establishes a framework for enhanced cooperation in critical areas such as climate resilience, economic growth, technology, and people-to-people connections.
Prime Minister Rabuka is expected to return to Fiji on November 16, 2025, at which point he will resume his official duties. In the interim, Mr. Vosarogo will oversee the continuous and effective conduct of government affairs.
This week’s events showcase Fiji’s dedication to bolstering international ties, particularly with Japan, and reflect a rich history of diplomatic relations that includes collaboration across various sectors such as education, health, and disaster management. The visit represents a crucial step towards promoting a resilient Pacific region and opens the door for further cooperation in addressing global challenges. This proactive engagement is a hopeful sign for future partnerships that aim to benefit both nations.
