The East versus West Bowling Championship kicked off on Saturday at the Fiji Bowling Club in Suva, delivering an exhilarating atmosphere as both teams showcased their competitive spirit. Games vice-president Ramesh Chand described the competition as exceptionally fierce, with many of the top players being representatives from Fiji’s West and trialists from the East. “Competition has been tough,” Chand said. “We are grateful for the great weather. The top bowlers are competing today, and with some new faces, the competition is really good.”
The stakes were particularly high, as national selectors were in attendance, motivating players to perform their best in hopes of securing a place in the national team for the upcoming Commonwealth Games. “This is one of our top tournaments, and those on trial are vying for a position in the Commonwealth Games, which is one of the most prestigious tournaments,” he noted. Chand expressed confidence in the participants, stating, “Everybody is putting in their best; they have been preparing for the last three months, contributing to the closeness of results.”
On the opening day, the West team established a lead with a score of 5-2 over the East, setting the tone for an intense tournament ahead.
