The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has welcomed the release of Transparency International’s 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), which assigned Fiji a score of 55, maintaining the country’s performance from previous years. This index, which is compiled from diverse independent data sources, gauges perceptions of public sector corruption risk rather than measuring actual instances of corruption or evaluating specific investigative outcomes.

FICAC has reiterated the importance of the CPI as a significant indicator that highlights the necessity for strong integrity frameworks, effective preventive measures, and public confidence in accountability mechanisms. The Commission continues to focus on bolstering its anti-corruption efforts through targeted initiatives in the public sector. Recent engagements have concentrated on critical topics, including conflict of interest, procurement integrity, and decision-making processes across public sector agencies.

In addition, FICAC has ramped up its public awareness and outreach initiatives aimed at enhancing understanding of corruption risks, the responsibilities of reporting misconduct, and the essential role that institutional accountability plays in protecting public resources. These actions align with FICAC’s mandate to prevent, deter, and tackle corruption through a comprehensive strategy that includes enforcement, education, and strengthening of systems.

The Commission encourages citizens to actively engage in maintaining integrity by reporting any suspected corruption or ethical violations through its official channels. By encouraging a collaborative approach, FICAC aspires to create a more transparent and accountable public sector in Fiji.

FICAC’s ongoing initiatives reflect a steadfast commitment to improving governance standards and fostering public trust, suggesting a positive outlook on the trajectory towards reducing corruption in the country. The collective efforts serve to reinforce the significance of integrity in governance and the vital role that every citizen can play in upholding these standards.
