Thirty players have been selected to represent the Fiji Corrections Services’ Wardens team in preparation for the rugby season of 2026, marking an essential rebuilding effort for the squad. The selection was made during the FSC’s annual inter-unit 7s tournament, which highlighted emerging talents from various divisions.

The tournament saw teams from the southern, central, and western divisions each playing with three teams, while the national and northern divisions each contributed two teams. This competitive environment aimed to identify strong candidates to join the Wardens team.

Jone Sigavou, a spokesperson for the FSC, emphasized the significance of these trials in rejuvenating the 7s team, especially following a season of mixed results on the national level. He stated, “This tournament was an opportunity to see the new talent we have. We’ve brought in two recruits but haven’t yet had a chance to see them in action. We were able to spot some newcomers, as well as players who have been part of Corrections for the past two years but haven’t had the platform to display their skills.”

With the new roster finalized, the team is now set to prepare for several upcoming competitions, including the respected Fiji Bitter Nawaka and Marist 7s tournaments. The selection of these players represents a hopeful advancement, as the coaching staff is dedicated to utilizing fresh talent and improving the team’s performance for the future. This endeavor aims not only to restore the Wardens’ reputation but also to foster a renewed spirit of camaraderie and competition among the players.
