Senior officials from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services have initiated the year with a critical three-day National Strategic Planning Workshop at the Pearl Resort in Pacific Harbour, aiming to define the future trajectory of the health care system in Fiji.
Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, Penioni Ravunawa, highlighted the importance of the workshop during its opening, noting that feedback from senior managers in hospitals, health centers, and communities is crucial for refining the first draft of the Strategic Plan. These insights are essential for creating a plan that is practical and responsive to the needs of the population.
Ravunawa explained that the Strategic Plan will serve as a guiding framework for the Ministry, influencing significant policy decisions, guiding the allocation of limited resources, and shaping the delivery of health services throughout the country. The plan’s focus will include addressing pressing challenges such as the rising rates of non-communicable diseases, new health threats, and the ongoing strain on the health workforce and infrastructure.
The Assistant Minister stressed the need for effective and informed planning to ensure that sustainable, equitable, and high-quality health services are accessible to all Fijians, both in the present and in the future. This workshop not only signifies the Ministry’s dedication to improving public health but also highlights a proactive strategy to address the changing health care needs of the nation. Such initiatives reflect the commitment to fostering a healthier population and a more resilient health system for Fiji.
