Fifty-five households in the Korolevu and Dradramea communities in Seaqaqa are still without electricity, despite previous commitments from the government to expand the power grid to these areas. Resident Moape Ligalevu expressed frustration, stating that there has been no follow-up on the promises made during a town hall meeting in Labasa last year.

The community has endured a prolonged power struggle, and with the new school year starting, the disappointment has grown, especially as a nearby government facility is fully powered while residents remain in darkness. The lack of electricity has severely impacted daily life, as children now depend on solar lighting for their study sessions, and women are required to complete household tasks manually without the help of electric appliances.

Ligalevu also highlighted safety concerns, noting that the dispersed nature of the homes combined with the absence of street lights poses danger, particularly given the rise in crime and illegal activities in the area. Alongside him, another resident, Vinod Kumar, stated that repeated inquiries directed at government officials for updates on the situation have gone largely ignored.

FBC News reached out to the Office of the Northern Commissioner for a comment on the matter but was unable to secure a response. As the community waits for resolution, hopes remain for a timely and supportive government response that addresses these pressing issues.
